Another visual tool for rounding is to use a hundred chart. Have students color the columns ending in 1,2,3, or 4 yellow. Color the columns ending in 5,6,7,8 or 9 green. If a number is in a yellow column, round down to the nearest ten. If the number is in the green column, round up to the nearest ten. The chart should help until they have internalized the concept.
