"bathroom breaks"
By Tabitha

Clip to ScrapBook
This is my third year teaching fifth grade. I tried the sign in and out sheet and the punch cards and found them to be a hassle.

Last year I used a new system. In the morning as my students are coming in and unpacking
I let any one go to the bathroom who needs to. Then as the morning progresses I have a die cut shape with students names on it that each one has. They place it in a basket and take their name from a can and place it over top of the bathroom pass. The names are on card stock with magnets on the back.

After I am done teaching a lesson and they are working on independent practice they can

go to the bathroom any time. I don't allow them to go when I am teaching a lesson. After the lesson they are allowed to go. After recess the whole class goes to the bathroom and does SSR. The passes are passed back and they get another chance during the afternoon. I found that this system worked very well and I wasn't bothered with hands waving in the air and constantly being asked can I go to the bathroom.
