bellwork

Clip to ScrapBook
Sixth grade is not like any other grade, but it can be the most rewarding. This is my second year teaching (both in the sixth grade) and I learned early on the bellwork is a lifesaver. All you really need is a word, phrase,
or math problem. All of these are posted on websites all over the internet. Which as I know you know by now is a great way to find all kinds of information.

When students come in my room in the morning they know that they will be working on reading skills. I have collected stories with questions (off the internet at #####.com , from other teachers, I've even created my own) they

come in read the story and answer the questions. In a few weeks I will change the bellwork from reading to writing to help the kids get ready for the ACTAAP test.

My sister (also a teacher) sometimes makes up words like snookerly and has the kids make-up a meaning or use for the words. I've tried this in my classroom and it was a lot of fun. Whatever you use, be sure to go over it with the class.

Good Luck!!!
