Kay - on classroom management
By eileen

Clip to ScrapBook
Don't worry about that crucial first days ballony. I am in the EXACT same boat as you, first year teaching. I totally screwed up my entire first week. And my second. But then during the last half of my third week I started
to crack down really hard on the kids. It was really tough, bec. it is not in my nature to be "firm" or "strict". I too have a class that even experienced teachers call "tough". I can't say whether or not our messing up the crucial first days is going to haunt us for the entire year or not. But I CAN say with certainty that children are forgiving and adaptable. If you toughen
up now, they will understand. It can't be that we have ruined the ENTIRE year just by messing up the first couple weeks. Of COURSE it would have been EASIER if we hadn't messed up, but we did. So now we have to fix and move on. I'm sure it can be done.

Also, don't worry about next year just now. That will take care of itself. Either we'll still be miserable at the end of the year, or we'll be holding our own and have our sea legs. Either way, at that time we will know if its right to continue in this profession or not. Don't let it burden you now - just work on making it through. Good luck.
