Ideas!
By Michelle

Clip to ScrapBook
I am also a 6th grade teacher, and this is what I do. Our day is split up into periods, so that makes it much easier to plan for, I am not sure if your's is the same.
1. Have your seating chart ALL ready for the first
day - that way they just walk in and have a seat at their desk.
2. Have a "do now" on the board for them to get started on. I am using an interest inventory type thing. Something to use as a conversation starter for later in the day.
3. Greet all of the children at the door with a smile and a handshake.
4. Take attendance, and do all of the housekeeping things. Introduce
yourself!
5. You will probably have plenty of papers and things to hand out that need to go home to get signed. Do this next, and have them put them away.
6. Do a little icebreaker activity. (There are plenty online that you can find - a lot on this site)
7. I usually then go over some of the things that we will be learning that year.
8. If you would like, you can jump right into some of the subjects with maybe a textbook scavenger hunt.
9. OVER PLAN!!! Have plenty of activities that you can do with them - it is best to overplan for everything!!!!
Hope this helps you with some ideas!
