Teacher notes:
Thursday, April 23: Ask Your Teacher Day- This is the day when you can find out everything you ever wanted to know about your wonderful teacher! (Only polite questions allowed!) (This would be a good time to tell your students some of those little known facts about you!)
Friday, April 24: Baby Day- Bring a picture of yourself when you were a baby (Teachers, that includes you!). (Maybe you could number the photos, hang them on the board, and have your students try to match them to the correct classmate. If you want your students to practice writing skills, you could have them write an essay that includes the following: what they were like as a child/ baby, what they used to like to do, what they used to like to eat, what their parents used to say to them, etc.)
Monday, April 27: Candid Camera Day – You never know when someone might snap your picture today! (Feel free to snap some pictures of your own, but just be prepared for a camera-toting visitor to capture you and your students working and playing together. You might help your students think of some ways to get some crazy shots by bringing in some unusual “props.” We’ll display some of the more outrageous photos in the cafeteria.)
Tuesday, April 28: D.E.A.R Day (for K-2) and Do Your Best Day (for 3-5, TAKS test!)- Once everyone is finished with the test, we can all dance to celebrate! (Maybe we can come together on the playground during the last few minutes of the day. We can set up a sound system on the porch to play some music and boogie down!)
Wednesday, April 29: Encouragement Day (Another quiet TAKS day!)- Help your students find ways to build each other up. Positive notes and words of praise are welcome every day!
Thursday, April 30: Favorite Book Day- Bring your favorite book to share with your class. (Let each child take a few minutes to show and tell the class why he/she chose the book. If you’ll send me a list of the titles and authors for your class, I’ll compile them and post them in the cafeteria.)
Friday, May 1: Game Day – Bring a game to share with your class (no electronics!). (A game day is a great way for students to practice reading, math, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.)
Monday, May 4: Hat Day - Wear your favorite hat to school. (Don’t forget to take some pics! Remind your students for hygienic reasons that there is no exchange of hats.)
Tuesday, May 5: I’m a Teacher Day – Be ready to teach your class about something that interests you or an unusual skill you have. (Encourage your students to take this chance to reverse roles with you. They might find that your job is harder than it looks! )
Wednesday, May 6: Joke Day – Bring a joke to share with your class. (Have your students write their jokes neatly, labeled with their names, and I’ll compile them and email them to you as a primary North Hills joke collection.
Thursday, May 7: Kick off your Shoes Day – Be sure to wear socks. You’ll be able to take off your shoes in the classroom. (If you’d like to focus your lessons around shoes, you can use this website as a resource, http://ngm.nationalgeographic.com/ngm/0609/feature2/learn.html
Depending on your grade level, you can use shoes to practice math, history, and language arts skills.)
Friday, May 8: Laughter Day - Share your favorite comics, cartoons, and silly books with your classmates. (No work here! Just let your students exchange and enjoy each others’ books.)
Monday, May 11: Music Day – You’ll have a chance to listen to some of your favorite music today. (This is your call. You could let your students bring a CD and pick a song on it to play for the class. Or you might just bring in music yourself to play at your discretion.)
Tuesday, May 12: Nature Day – Bring the outside in and enjoy the wonders of nature. If the weather’s nice, maybe your teacher can take you outside to experience it as a class! (Take a walk around Campion Trails! Again, don’t forget your camera.)
Wednesday, May 13: Open Door Day – Your teacher will take you to visit another classroom at North Hills! (Make an appointment with another teacher to take your class to read to a younger class or to find out what it’s going to be like in an older grade. Your visits don’t have to be long, ten or fifteen minutes, if you have a busy schedule planned for this day.)
Thursday, May 14: Poetry Day – Enjoy a day of your favorite poems! You may bring a poem you’d like to read to your class. (If you want to set up your whole day based around poetry, you might use some of the ideas at this website: http://www.proteacher.com/070034.shtml .)
Friday, May 15: Quiz Your Teacher Day- See if you can “stump” your teacher with a really hard question. (Kids love to feel like they know something we don’t know!  You can limit their questions to specific topics or just to whatever you’re learning about in class.)
Monday, May 18: Really Cool Cats Day- Wear your favorite pair of sunglasses. (Don’t forget to wear your shades, too!)
Tuesday, May 19: Sidewalk Art Day- Your class will be given a section of sidewalk here at North Hills to decorate with chalk. (I’ll have chalk if you need it and will let you know where your class can display your artwork. You can have your students create artwork that relates to what you’ve learned this year or just let them create!)
Wednesday, May 20: Talent Show Day – Share your talents with your class. (One of my favorite memories of school was when I was in fourth grade. Miss Rogers let our class have a talent show. We actually had a competition between the boys and the girls… and the girls won!  Let’s encourage our students to be risk-takers and to share their talents of all kinds with their classmates.)
Thursday, May 21: Used Books Day – Bring books that you have read and enjoyed and would like to donate to your class library!
Friday, May 22: Visitor Day- Bring a stuffed animal to “visit” your class. (I bet your students could write some great stories for their visitors… adventures they go on with other “visitors”, how they felt about coming to school, what they are going to do over the summer.)
Tuesday, May 26: Who, What, When, Where, Why Day- Make a memory book about this school year. (I can send you a format I’ve used in years past if you’re interested.)
Wednesday, May 27: ‘X-change Autographs Day- You’ll meet with students in other classrooms to exchange signatures in your memory books. (We can set a specific time for each grade level to meet around the playground.)
Thursday, May 28: Year End Clearance Day – Clean out your desks and cubbies!
Friday, May 29: Zip Up Your Bags and Zoom Home Day! Have a great summer!
