what's your topic? one idea

Clip to ScrapBook
What's your topic? Drama/role play activities could be enjoyable. E.g. if you are doing explorers, you could group the students, give them several possible sites that the explorers had to start a colony and have them research
why they would choose a particular place. Then they could present their arguments in a round-table discussion on why they chose their Colony site (here you are hitting curricular objectives about explorers), and then you would follow up with what location the early explorers actually DID choose. By that time, your students have been engaged and are VERY interested in learning about
the routes of the explorers.

I've also found that making connections to students' lives helps to engage them. E.g. talking about a particular time period, how did the children live? what were their daily responsibilities? how is your life similar/differnt

Hope these are a start.
