Postitive Behavior idea By SGS

One small idea I use with my fourht graders is a "student of the day" trophy. I happened to have a nice trophy from a fund raiser event and put a label over the engraving that said "student of the day." During the course| of the day I'm on the lookout for a deserving soul. They can keep the trophy for the rest of the day, or until another deserving soul is found. The kids really love it. As far as children being responsible for their own behavior I stole an idea somewhere off this board earlier in the summer. I plan to give it a try this year. I have created a form for children to fill out when they | | have broken a rule. The form asks for them to describe the rule broken and to tell what should have been done differently. I will also add a line or two about what I did to help correct the problem, if anything. This will be handy for parent conferences. Also, as far as homework is concerned, I created "excuse slips." When a student comes to school without an assignment done I have them fill out an excuse slip with the following information: their name, date, the missed assignment and the reason why the assignment was not completed. Every 5 weeks we are required to send home a report to parents. I attach the slips to their reports. I love that the infomation is in the student's handwriting. Sometimes the excuses are a hoot! (I also tell the student that the assignment needs to be handed in the next day and a 5 point penelty will be subtracted from their grade.) I hope these help.
