5th grade homework
By Cheryl

Clip to ScrapBook
I agree that I am not a fan of homework, but as it is required by our district, I have developed a plan which helps students organize their time and take responsiblity for completing assignments. I hand out a homework packet
once a week (has been Wednesday the past two years), and students have a week to complete the assignments and turn it in. This way they can schedule around extracurricular activities. This year I plan to have a writing assignment, math problem of the week, spelling assignments, reading, and "Time for Kids" (current events). These vary from week to week and can also include math
review, social studies assignment, etc. There is enough to amount to about 1 hour per day for 5 days, which is the district guideline. Parents have been very supportive, saying sometimes at the beginning of the year Tuesday nights can be tough, but students quickly learn to plan their time.
