Harcourt Reading

This is my third year doing Harcourt Brace. I teach first grade and I found that the series contains so many ideas that I could spend 3 weeks on a story. In fact, I did that my first year in the program.

I try to spend about a week on each story, and I always make sure to hit the red "tested skills". I don't really like the writer's workshop ideas, so I skip them and do my own writers workshop. One of my colleagues uses the phonetic ideas for each story and incorporates them into her spelling program.
