I definitely agree that we should not reward students for expectations that everyone should meet (i.e. following rules, guidelines, etc.). This sends the wrong message to students; we are telling them that they will always be rewarded for what they are supposed to do and that just isn't so in the real world. I do surprise students with rewards from time to time but it is simply a treat from me. I know we all have differing opinions about this.
