I agree with everyone else...

I use the signout sheet (it's a school requirement if a child leaves the room) and I love it. When I'm working with students I don't have kids running up to me every second and asking to go- they just sign out and go. I also do one boy, one girl- I only have one hall pass for each so they know if someone's there. My only rule is that they cannot go while I'm teaching because I don't want them to miss anything. I do very few classroom restroom trips because I have twice as many girls as boys, so it takes forever plus the girls like chatting when they're in there! The kids all end up signing out about twice a day, which to me is reasonable.
