Book room

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi Jenny,
It really depends upon what you've ordered for your bookroom...If they're mainly tradebooks for literature discussions, you might use your social studies, science and language arts genres to categorize them.
If you mainly have leveled books for shared/guided reading, there are several books that will help you decide upon the level, Matching Books to Readers will help with the K-3 titles, while Guiding Readers and Writers has titles to span 3-6th grades. In Guiding Readers, there are also many titles that are trade books that could be leveled as well. Guided reading books would be used primarily
with a group of children with similar needs, while groups for literature conversations are usually heterogeneous, depending upon interest. Our book room has both, plus we're in the process of putting together book boxes for strategy lessons from 'Strategies That Work Teaching Comprehension to Enhance Understanding'. (Another way to categorize.) If you'd like possible categories, or other info. just post or email. ;-D
