bathroom breaks
By Rebecca

Clip to ScrapBook
I understand where you are coming from. I teach third grade and this year in particular, my students are constantly wanting to go to the bathroom. We have several scheduled breaks during the day. However, I do let them
go at other times as long as it is not during instruction time (unless it is an emergency). Only one boy, one girl is permitted at a time. It is truly amazing how strong the power of suggestion is...if one asks then it seems that every has to go right then. sign language works great. They can sign to you and you can give the "yes"sign or "no"sign. This way, it is not disruptive.
I
am a mother of a 19 and 13 year old and I know they do not have to go every hour! Some of my students think they can go 15 or 30 min. after they have already gone and that is not permitted unless it is an emergency. That is just abusing your priviledge.
About the water, you might want to let them bring a bottled water if this is acceptable at your school. I haven't tried it personally but my friend has at another school and it has worked well for her. Just a thought. Hope this helps.
