Hi Marlena,
You might want to try 'pods' for a science class. Putting the desks in groups gives additional space in the 'middle' for materials. Group them in 3-5 desks, and use your class lists to 'balance' the teams. Watch for strong personalities, students with special needs, independent workers, etc...You're also going to need to do lots of community building, and modeling in order to facilitate the children in working together and supporting each other. Working out the logistics takes time, but cooperative groups is a major plus for lifelong learning. ;-D Best of luck!
