Reading and such
By Debbie

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi all,
Lots of great information on the teaching of reading! In addition to the book I'd mentioned in a previous post (Guiding Readers and Writers GL 3-6), there were several ideas mentioned that are found in the following
professional resources...
Literature circles-try 'Grand Conversations' by Peterson and Eeds (a slim volume published by Scholastic, inexpensive but well worth the read, helps with nurturing the affect of lifelong readers)
Comprehension Strategies-find 'Strategies That Work' by Harvey and Goudvis (published by Heinemann-in addition to detailing strategies for interactive read
aloud, each chapter has suggested literature books at a wide variety of GLs and vignettes of classroom responses)
Getting started with literature circles-'Literature Circles' by Daniels (published by Stenhouse-details the roles and activities as mentioned by several posters, has an accompanying video to view conversations in action)...
Hope this helps! Email or post again if you'd like specifics on these or other possibilities...but my first choice is still GR&W...and I've been teaching reading a LONG time. ;-D
