First Grade HW and jobs
By Becky

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi,
The only homework that I give the first few days is an assignment asking the children to write and draw a rule that they think is very important to follow in school. We use these to create a list of classroom rules.
Once
homework kicks in I give the children two sight words a night. They write them three times each and practice them at home. They get Math homework on Mondays and Wednesdays and on Thursdays they choose their two "favorite" sight words from the week and write a sentence using each word.
As far as classroom jobs go, these are what I have;
sink area
tables
my helper
centers
white
boards
lunch tickets
office messenger
classroom pets
floor
plants
morning message
calendar
weather
"on vacation"
mailboxes

Good luck and enjoy the little ones. They are so cute at this age!!
Becky

P.S. One thing that I have started doing is assigning table captains at each table. They are responsible for passing out and collecting papers for their tables. Tables can earn points every month for a prize out of the treasure box.
