Disbelieving parent
By ABE

Clip to ScrapBook
I had a couple of these last year. For one, I sent a form letter home every day outlining how the daughter had done that day. It had a checkplace for everything from homework, classwork, lining up, cafeteria behavior and
special classes. The parent had to sign it everyday. For another parent, I kept notes on all of the kids. I told her son to do the same. (He is able to write) I OVERSYMPATHIZED with him and explained that I must have missed something. told him to write a note every time another kid picked on him or whatever the offense was and that I would deal with it at lunchtime. He knew that
he really had few complaints and dealing with it at lunch was disagreeable to him. After about a week, he changed a lot of his behavior. In the first case, the dad didn't really want notes every night but I kept it up and called when I hadn't received a note back. When the daughter realized that I was going to follow through and write both positive and negative stuff EVERY DAY, her behavior changed, too.
