This is what I am trying this year. One of my goals this year was to work on individualizing my spelling program. I am taking it one step at a time. I have found a way to incorporate the language series words and words my
students are misspelling in their writing. The first three weeks of the month I will use the series words. The last week of each month I will have the kids pick 15 words from their writing notebooks. I the front of their writing notebooks they have a page entitled, 'my spelling words.' They collect words on that page frome their writing (the words that they misspell....found when editing
with kids). The list will build all month....so when it is time for them to choose their words they are right there for them. This incorporates words they really need work on in everyday life...and the words that follow the 'language patterns.' This will be my first year trying this...so we shall see how it goes. I start on Monday. The kids do a spelling activity each night at home to go along with their words. Hope this helps.
