I agree about not giving consequences, but have before. I've worked with specialists whose management is so bad that it spills over into my room. When I get my kids from music, they are SO wound up that we started doing deep breathing in the hallway. I feel like the specialists complain to us b/c they want us to do something about it. I bring them copies of the school's think sheet and remind them of the school rules on warnings, time-out, etc.
When it's something like half the class, I would do what you did.
