Supply Money
By Tracy

Clip to ScrapBook
Our supply money is not put to good use very often. Even though the teachers fill out a supply list each year, what is delivered in August is often a great non-returnable surprise. This year I received 50 bottles of glue,
4 boxes of large business envelopes, and 8 packs of crayons. I teach fifth grade. I added these wonderful supplies to my leftovers from last year: 30 bottles of rubber cement, 10 pair of earphones, and 16 boxes of staples. I am still drowning in the 20 boxes of staples I received two years ago. I started complaining about the situation and found that other teachers are having the same
problem. We comprised a list of all of our unwanted treasures and the bartering began. I now have 15 pairs of scissors that I exchanged for 20 bottles of glue. I also received a box of file folders in exchange for a box of those lovely envelopes. Things may not be perfect now, but at least my students aren't trying to figure out how to cut paper with rubber cement. Try it.

We have also learned to use our local Goodwill and Salvation Stores. You'll be amazed what others will donate in the name of education.
