Along with starting 504 implementation, how do you teach the students? Do you mainly teach by you explaining and the students taking notes and then doing paperwork? If so, have you tried allowing and doing interactive activities| where the kids get to move about, touch, and manipulate things. Try not staying on one task for long periods. This'll be beneficial for all students. They'll get to see what you are trying to get across in different modes. Remember from your methods classes in college, they said you have to teach in different ways because all kids don't learn in the same way? Apply this in | | your classroom. Use auditory, visual, and bodily kinesthetic activities. Also, move him from the back of the room so that he's closer to you. Less distractions for him. Don't put him by a window. It's too easy for Adhd kids to be distracted by these outside stims. You should be the stim so try and be exciting (show this in your voice) and what you do in class. There's this video of a teacher in her class that you might want to take a look at. Her name's Miss Tolliver. She's a teacher in an inner city NY school. Alot of what she does is just keep the kids so excited about the class that they WANT to do the work. Presentation is huge. Even on the assignments you send home. Make sure they're not just paper and pencil assignments. Have them physically manipulating things, talking to people, etc. All the students will benefit from this in the end. The likelihood is they'll be more likely to remember the information because they enjoyed the class because it was exciting.
