Everyone who has posted in response to your original message is exactly right! DON'T give up. That first week of teaching was the WORST ever. I was physically sick. And, my two other grade partners were NOT helpful.
Honestly, that aspect DIDN'T get much better, but I came to understand that they just resented a NEW teacher coming in and doing well. Both of those teachers left my school the following year. One is having major problems getting along with others in her new school. My point is, as nice as it is to have their help, cooperation, and input, YOU CAN DO IT WITHOUT THEM. Cathy-Dee is right
though- I am the "experienced" one on my team who gets asked everything, and while I am not rude and unpleasant like these two people have been, sometimes I feel REALLY overwhelmed because I have so much on my mind and I have a lot of my own questions. How easily some people forget the unsure feelings of being a first-time teacher in that first week of school. As far as planning actual lessons, just plan SOMETHING for now- do whatever feels right. TRY to follow the curriculum the best you can. After you've established rules, etc., teach the best that you know how, and if you are doing it wrong, you will figure it out. The worst that can happen is that the principal will come into your room when you are doing it all wrong and then maybe you'll actually get some attention and help! Or, you will realize how it all works in a few weeks, and you will laugh at your first few lessons (yes, laugh!) and you will make any improvements. I PROMISE it gets better. I didn't quit, but came unbelieveably close several times. I am so glad I didn't. I promise- it will get better. It has to! We are all here for you. You are lucky you found this board- I didn't until my 2nd year! Hang in there!
