Good question
By AnneB

Clip to ScrapBook
This was a problem I dealt with last year and it seems everyone does it different.
First question who many entries for each subject for each week really depends on what your doing, some weeks you may only have one entry,
others one for each day.
Second question is a lot harder to answer. I asked several teachers last year how they encouraged students to get in the homework because some of mine, usually the same ones over and over, didn't turn it in. One of the best ways they told me was to do a weekly or biweekly progress report, it's a little more work for you but since parents have to sign it and
return it you have proof that you've made them aware of certain problems such as no homework or behavior.
Third question I tried to do that at the beginning and it became a nightmare. What I found that worked was to sometimes grade it during class and then go by each desk to write down their points. Sometimes I would also take up their work but just put a check mark on it as credit turned in. If your like I was, your walking around the room anyway checking answers so you have a pretty good idea how they're doing.
Fourth question I gave my kids a cushion window, even the best kids will sometimes leave their homework at home. I would set a due date but for those who were absent or "forgot" could turn it in the next day. I began taking points off work turned in any later than that. A fellow teacher had so much trouble with late or no homework, she began calling parents right there during classtime, we have phones in our rooms, and after a couple of calls, work poured in. She had to do this off and on every couple of weeks to remind students that it was not an idle threat.
Hoped this helped.
