504
By Donna

Clip to ScrapBook
I would start action moving towards a 504. If he has been diagnosed as ADHD he does qualify under the American Disabilities Act. Get your student study teams, or whatever you use in your State, together to work out modifications
for this student that will help him be successful. Have his parents read "Driven to Distraction", I believe that is the name of the book. Also try referring them to an ADHD support group in your town, your psychologist or counselor should know of one. It is possible to have his day shortened if he is wearing thin in the afternoon which could help him be more successful in the
morning. Sometimes these guys don't know what success feels like. Of course counseling should be written into the 504. I think highly of you for not throwing your hands up and seeking a better way for this student.
