Here are a few ideas:Changing seats Game- Let's assume that you have 22 children in your class. You will need to use 23 sticks for the seat change game. You will mark 2 sets of sticks labelled 1-11. Then you will write | free choice on the 23rd stick. Place the sticks in a bag. Children are invited up to your desk to select a stick. They must keep the number to themselves and not show anyone. When every child has received his /her stick, you will announce that it is time to change seats. The ones will stand. The two children with #1 will switch seats with one another. Then the #2s will stand etc. One child | | will not have a match so they must remain in the same seat. Once all the numbers are called. The teacher will ask who the lucky free choice winner is. That person may bump anyone out of his /her seat and that child must switch. My third graders love this!! I have had great success with this and the children enjoy working with new kids every couple weeks. The game only takes a few minutes and then it's back to business!Lunch counters- Children place their personalized sticks in special cups to order lunch. Rubber Stamp Puzzles- Place 6 popsicle sticks side by side and tape them onto a table. Carefully use a large rubber stamp to stamp the image. Encourage the children to color their puzzles with markers. Once the puzzles are colored remove the tape and place the pieces in a bag. Kids will love putting these puzzles together. They make cute card/gifts for the parents too. Popsicle Stick Dominos- You can make dominos that will help the children review key concepts that have been learned in class. Geometry- You can use popsicle sticks to create three dimensional figures using sticks and clay.
