I think that it is important to set the rules and the atmosphere of the class as soon as you possibly can.(the first day!!) It is important to be firm, but not "mean". Let them know what the procedures are and that they are meant to be followed. Just remember that there may be some children who have never been in any kind of classroom environment. And remember, they are just as nervous as you are!!
