Re: girls are amazing too!
By Cathy-Dee

Clip to ScrapBook
I don't think the first post was implying that only boys in this area are gifted. I assumed that since the school is for gifted children, that there would be a class with primarily girls. For some reason the school may
feel that separating boys from girls is the way to go. Also I would think most "gifted" schools draw on students from all over a district not just one area. And I'm sure the original poster as well as all the others are fully aware that girls can be just as gifted as boys - that was never the issue.

And often I find my girls a bit sillier than my boys in class. While my boys can sometimes

be a bit of a handful - I've had girls that equal them in that category. But often my girls are the ones to get the giggles, have little fights between themselves, worry about little things, that my boys just are not concerned about. Although I do believe in equality - the sexes are different and we do need to take in account some of the differences to best reach our students.

Personally rather than jump out and attack the original poster and another who responded, you may have done better if you had asked questions first to clarify the situation. And I'm not trying to dump on you either, but we've had so much negativety on the boards over the past 4 months that some of us are becoming defensive over the littlest things. This board is so great but we all need to work at keeping it positive and informative.
And I have no problems with debates and discussing issues as long as the original poster or someone who posts brings up the debate in a way that is not insulting or negative to those who are just asking for advice.
