"organization if 5th grade"
By Tabitha

Clip to ScrapBook
This will be my third year teaching 5th grade. I have my students buy 6 pocket folders for all subjects. I give them a folder for Homework and important papers to go home. They write down their homework and incomplete class
work in an assignment book at the end of the day. I inital their books before they leave my class. This year I am having table captains that are incharge of writing down the homework in table folders that have all the names listed on the inside. In the morning the table captains have to check off who turned in their homework and then give me the table folder with the work. This gives
me a quick glance at who did and didn't do it. Those that didn't do it loose free time on Friday and recess that day until the work is complete. I also have them fill out an IOU card of the assignment missed and they sign it. After six missed assignments it goes home for parents to sign and return with the complete work. Once the work is complete then they earn free time back and recess. They are not allowed to do it as soon as the come in because I have morning work written on the board. Also every Monday I send home weekly reports. Parents see what the child didn't do and the behavior for that week. My parents loved this last year.
I have them place writing journals in two crates. Each crate has file folders in it number 1-15 and 16-32. Each child is assigned a number the first day of school and they use that all year. I place colored dots on their journals to remind me which ones I need to read that day or take home to read. I have them use pencil pouches instead of boxes because it takes up to much room in their desks. I also have table boxes that are labeled with items that they will use in cooperative group settings. The table captain is in charge of making sure that all times are put back in the boxes when they are done using them or that table will not have the supplies they need for the next group activity. I hope this helps you out! If you need some more help just email me. I would be glad to tell you how I do other things to keep me and my students organized.
