For the what do I do now kids By Suz

I agree with margret peer coaching is great. I also have on going puzzle changes. One of my favorites that last throughout the year -----make cards with numbers 1-9 on them (you'll have 9 cards total) have the kids arrange| the cards for that they form a true addition or subration problem--this will be a 3 digit by 3 digit with a 3 digit answer. If they can make one that is true they record the problem in a class notebook with their name by the problem they found. The kids have to check each others problem and make sure they don't duplicate any. Its pretty tough (carrying and borrowing is important, | | they won't have any symbols to represent these though, don't tell them this let them discover it on their own). My class came up with 60 different possiblities my partner teacher class had almost 80. Challenge another class! I love this activity because its not disruptive it can be done at their seat independantly and the clean up it quick. Mailbox has a book out also that is loaded with center ideas for grades 4-6. Takes a little work to set the centers up from the book---a great job for a parent helper. Best of Luck!
