rewards

Clip to ScrapBook
I maybe the only one but, I have a problem giving treats to kids unless they all can get them. If the whole class has a good day or they all get their homework in on time then everyone gets a treat. (stickers, bookmarks,
small candy) I used to give out treats for rewards to kids that "deserved them" but when the kids got disappointed(they would say ,"Is that it?") with my treasure chest I decided to quite. I spent a good deal of time and money buying the stuff and it was like a slap in the face. One thing that helps even my first graders to be motivated is to tell them you will give them 5 extra points
on their grades. They really don't know what that means (I try to explain it) but they sure love it when I get my grade book out and write a 5 next to their names. Perhaps you could do this for homework. They get one point for each day they turn it in so they would have 5 at the end of the week. I feel that in school you work for grades not small tokens. They do well with this.
