Portfolios..I love them!
By Nichole

Clip to ScrapBook
Hello Pam! I use portfolios every year. I use them a little differently then the typical usage. I have the students keep 2 kinds of portfolios. One is for their writing pieces to show growth and to go onto the next year's
teacher. The other way, I have the students keep all sorts of work from: math sheets, writing pieces, notes, projects, goal sheets, reflection sheets, grades, pictures, book lists, self-assessment sheets, SS and Science pieces, etc. in a pizza box. The pizza box makes it easier for storage b/c we can store projects that are not flat easily. In the beginning of June, I have the students
start going through their boxes and pick out the things they want to include in their final portfolio. I see this portfolio more as a scrapbook of their school year. I do require certain things, but mostly the children choose what they want in theirs. All pieces do have some kind of entry sheet I have created. These sheets are like: I choose this piece b/c, this is my favorite piece b/c, I learned this from this piece, My goal for next year are, I will never forget this, i want to forget this, etc. I also make sure each student has a picture of the class in color, plus other pictures we have taken throughout the year with the digtal camera. I hope this helps!

Nichole
