Hi, I agree with adrienne. Get yourself the book Guided Reading (Good First Teaching for All Children) by Irene C. Fountas and Gay Su Pinnell. Heinemann publisher. There is a great chapter on managing the classroom. This
chapter explains How to set up a visual work board or diagram for the kids to use to help them do their work while you are busy doing guided reading. There are some sample mangement plans. For example: Independent reading as they come in (10 minutes)
Opening routines: morning message (5 minutes)
Reading Aloud (5 minutes)
Shared reading or interactive writing (15 minutes)
Guided
reading )(Work time 60 minutes) two groups per day
Reading aloud (10 minutes)
Shared Reading (5 minutes)
Writing Workshop (40 minutes)
Hope this helps!
Judy
