Although I am not a new teacher, my first week went very well, too. I am relieved, because I had the challenge class last year. They were kids who were rude and disrespectful, and who thought they were just too good for rules and order. I teach fifth grade.

I am very glad that your first experience in teaching has been so positive. New teachers need to be given the best circumstances, so that they will want to stay on and have the confidence to grow as teachers. Too many teachers leave within the first five years because of behavior problems, lack of support, a feeling of helplessness, and so forth. You are fortunate to have a class of students who respect you.

I hope the rest of your year goes just as well.
