Mess Makers
By Jennie

Clip to ScrapBook
I have taught for seven years at the same school and we have to change rooms every year! Fortunately, I haven't collected enough junk to leave behind for others entering their new room. However, I do try to leave at least
one "present" behind for the next person who is using the room. Last year it was a first year teacher who didn't have many supplies, so I left several files of form letters and copies of unit plans that might assist her as well as a few laminated posters that were appropriate for her grade. I admit I am not the neatest person in the world, but we must take the time to consider the amount
of time it will take the next person to clean up any messes left. A few years ago one teacher left a cabinet and a closet full of stuff for me to clean out. I simply went down the hall, asked her to come down to the room, and showed her what she had left. She got the point and my new room was cleaner (after a few hours). It all boils down to being courteous which is a quality we try to instill in our students. Some of us need to remember to practice it ourselves.
