I teach 2nd grade and we use several. The Slosson oral reading test where they read a list of words and gives you an idea of how their sight word vocabulary is. We also use STAR which they take on the computer, we got it when we started using Accelerated Reader. I also use running records, I just run off pages from stories we've read through the year and use that. Hope this helps!
