Combined 1/2
By Rebecca

Clip to ScrapBook
Dear Debbie,
I teach a year 1/2 but in Western Australia so things may be a little different. Firstly it is hard work. If you have an older combined class which I have had many times before the children are more independent.
Some suggestions:
Maths do the same topic but at two levels eg length, area.
I do a big book for reading and then all written work is at two levels. I do a theme in the afternoon this term being dinosaurs - again some work is the same eg art/craft but the social studies, science is geared to two levels. I have just discovered one item which may help. All the children made a
folder. In it goes a couple of worksheets we have already done during the year. I keep a box of left overs, in there are also pictures from colouring in books etc. The children have the files on their desks and if I am held up with one group they have work to do. The main thing is you have to be organized but if the children are not problems (behaviour or ability) it does give you a few moments. The older children also love reading or helping the younger ones. Good luck.
