computers

Clip to ScrapBook
I am in the same situation (although I do have web access). We got our computers half way through last year and then one hard drive crashed so I only had the 2 up and running for about 2 months at the end. I'd like to use
them more (and more efficiently) this year. I have lots of great software programs I use to reinforce math skills, teach geography/history, and make writing fun (prompts, a picture to write about, etc.) The problem is getting everyone a chance. I usually let 2 kids go on during DEAR/SSR/silent reading and sometimes during Writing Workshop. That way it works out to be about a week and
a half rotation to get everyone on. Some rotations it is a choice of software, sometimes I tell them. During centers, I usually let 4 kids on, in pairs. One seat is marked "pilot" and one "co-pilot" by each computer. I set the timer and every 10 minutes the co-pilot and pilot switch so that there are no fights over the mouse, etc. When they have had a turn they take down their clothespin. IT's tricky to think about all this but the kids do love it. Good luck!
