I do not know what state you teach in but this is a little too old for 5th grade. There has to be method you can get this young man evaluated he should be in the 7th grade. What damage is going to be done to him by keeping
him in the 5th grade. In California we have a process that we can evaluate students through Student Study Team, Student Assistance Team, ask for assistance from psychological services. I am sorry but this is a disaster waiting to happen with a student this age mixed with yours. I have not a clue how you make this young man a part of your class and maintain a degree of self esteem

for him. He will be close to 14 years of age before he leaves you and then to 6th grade, at this rate he will drive before he gets to 7th grade. Get some help.
