An additional comment...The Little House series are wonderful history books, but can be difficult for third graders early in the year. But I have found them to be high interest enough to keep them going. There are many supplementary resources to go with that series. Also, if you have not seen them, they now have many of the chapters made into short picture books that would allow your emerging readers to be involved in the historical information also. (I bought some at Target-our local discount store).
