hazing By Adriann

Hazing in the past has included drinking, eating disgusting things, resulted in physical harm, and even sexual acts. They have, in the past, been a major concern at colleges and universities, especially with fraternities| and sororities. In the past 10 - 20 years the practice has drifted down to high schools with athletic teams and even some popular extracurricular organizations. Although they haven't been as severe as what occured on the college level some participants have ended up getting hurt and some were even sexually abused. A common hazing ritual for high school would be to wear your clothes inside | | out in order to get indocturned in a club(which isn't too bad considering other forms of hazing) or to go through what is called a torture chamber which usually includes paddling and mental abuse of club wannabes. Colleges have become more aware of this procedure and many fraternities and sororities have lost their chartership at colleges and universities around the world because there were reported cases of death by accident during hazing procedures. In a movie about a high school football team released in the early 1990's the new team members had to lay on the yellow center line of a busy roadway. I read about a year later where a high school coach actually made some of his team do this and one of them was physically injured because of it. I'm glad to hear your state has completely outlawed these activities. More states should do so but you would be surprised to learn how many don't have laws prohibiting it. Most states leave it up to the individual colleges, universities, and school boards to address the problem.
