As a new 5th grade teacher I too stressed over the beginning of the year theme. What a waste of time for me! I ended up using a smiley sun wreath and assorted posters and things. My room was not theme filled, but then neither was any in my school. I would recommend chosing some bright cheery something which you like and then moving on toward your curriculum. I'm sorry if this sounds negative. But as my husband reminded me, I was stressing over putting some posters on the walls. 5th graders are fun. Enjoy them. Good luck with your school year!
