fun pet
By Ruth

Clip to ScrapBook
I suggest a hamster. I get one every year and give it away to a student the day before summer vacation (to keep). It is tax deductable because you are giving it away and all of the supplies are too! I suggest getting
a boy as they are less "moody" and personally I have had the best luck with teddy-bear hamsters - the ones that look like fur balls (really hairy). They are the friendliest. I like that they have no tails because mice kind of freak me out. It is really important that you buy a baby and not an adult hamster as it is easier to tame them - have kids handle them at least twice a day to
get them really used to handling and less prone to "freaking out". I usually "draw names" for pet people - 2 per week starting with 2 that I know have pets at home and won't freak out if the baby jumps at first. Hope you have a fun year!
