Film Cannisters and Solar system
By Rachel Ehlers

Clip to ScrapBook
This past year I used the film cannisters to make constellations. The text book we use has an activity including simple reproductions of the different constellations. The students choose one (it's small enought to fit on the bottom of the cannister) and use it as a pattern to poke holes with a needle. The students then can hold the cannister up toward the light and see their constellation. The students labeled theirs with a number and passed them on. It was the students' job to determine which constellation each student had chosen using their own sheet showing the different constellations. It is a short lesson and the kids enjoy it. (I too went to the local WalMart and received plenty of cannisters on the spot)
