Group Work

Have you read the book Tribes by Jeanne Gibbs? When I first started teaching in my district, I had a problem with group work (certain students not wanting to work together, not doing their "share", etc). After reading the book and implemeting the ideas with my students- group work was rarely a problem. By the way, I teach 4th grade too and recommend it highly to anyone that would like to use group work in their class.
