"fifth grade management"
By Tabitha

Clip to ScrapBook
All you have to do it set the stage for what you want. You tell them exactly what you expect from them and how you will handle them if they decide to make the wrong choices. Have a set Code of Conduct, consequences, and rewards.
No matter what if you say that you will do something you must do it. If you don't they know they've got you.
Be firm but do it with love. Show them respect and they will respect you. I don't agree with the no smiling. They need to know that you are there because you care and that you have a sense of humor. Fifth graders love a teacher with a sense of humor. They see you as a real
person not just a teacher. If you would like a copy of my code, consequences, and rewards I would be happy to email it to you. Just let me know. Go in with a postive attitude and make them feel welcome then you can teach them anything you want. Make them do the work and you will leave school a much happier teacher. This will be my third year teaching fifth grade.
