stoplight system
By sm

Clip to ScrapBook
I used the stoplight system last year and the kids liked it. Each day a child stayed on green light, they would get a star and when they had 5 stars, they would get a prize. I liked this because they didn't have to rely
on others in the class to be good, so that the class would be rewarded. If they could control their own behavior, they would be rewarded after 5 days. Period. Yes, some of them waited much longer than 5 days to get 5 stars, but they knew it was their problem and they were the only ones who could fix the problem. Someone mentioned the popcicle sticks in a cup and having a drawing from
the ones in the happy cup. I don't like this idea, simply because someone may never get drawn. After a while, he or she may think, "Why try, I never get drawn". I think they need to be rewarded for good behavior always, not randomly. Oh, I make my students move themselves from green to yellow, etc. I think it hits home a little more when they have to do it.
