stoplight system By sm

I used the stoplight system last year and the kids liked it. Each day a child stayed on green light, they would get a star and when they had 5 stars, they would get a prize. I liked this because they didn't have to rely| on others in the class to be good, so that the class would be rewarded. If they could control their own behavior, they would be rewarded after 5 days. Period. Yes, some of them waited much longer than 5 days to get 5 stars, but they knew it was their problem and they were the only ones who could fix the problem. Someone mentioned the popcicle sticks in a cup and having a drawing from | | the ones in the happy cup. I don't like this idea, simply because someone may never get drawn. After a while, he or she may think, "Why try, I never get drawn". I think they need to be rewarded for good behavior always, not randomly. Oh, I make my students move themselves from green to yellow, etc. I think it hits home a little more when they have to do it.
