Classroom Expectations
By Debbie

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi again all,
Rather than posting expectations (rules/routines) for your classroom, I'd suggest you negotiate these with your class...on the first day you might discuss ways people/families should treat one another (how
they would like to be treated) and routines that might help in order to have a safe and caring learning community. Keep a running list of suggestions for at least a week or two, and as situations come up in the classroom or on the playground, add to it...From there, support your kids in categorizing this list into bigger ideas, like 'Be a friend'. You should be able to come up with 4-6
main expectations. It's really important to do this with your children, because each has a buy in to the learning community. From there, some natural and logical consequence can be applied when an expectation isn't met. These vary depending upon the offense and individual circumstances. Hope this helps, and I'd read 'Punished by Rewards' or another book by Alfie Kohn before you begin...Take care, ;-D
