My class ( especially the girls) loved the book RIDING FREEDOM by Pam Munoz Ryan. It historical fiction based on the life of One-Eyed Charlie- a famous woman stage coach driver that lived her entire life passing for a man. It pairs beautifully with BANDIT'S MOON. Both books have strong female characters. I've also used DR. DOOLITTLE by Hugh Lofting and THE CABIN FACED WEST by Jean Fritz. All of these can be found on Amazon.com.
