Crying students

I had a student once that cried out of frustration and I tried everything to help her. Well one day I had this plant a small one in my classroom and I told her that if she had to cry not to waste that water but to water the plant. I then put the plant on her desk and told her go ahead cry she probably thought that I was crazy but she stopped crying and worked on her work. After that whenever she cried I would just put the plant on her desk and she would stop.
